Spirituality
Spirituality at Garston Church of England Primary School
As a Church of England school, we are inspected under the SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) framework. This looks at our religious education, collective worship, and the way we support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
What is spirituality?
At Garston Church of England Primary School, we see Spirituality as how we understand ourselves and our place in the world. It is about awe and wonder, asking questions, reflecting on our thoughts, feeling inspired, and recognising something bigger than ourselves. We describe this as “windows, mirrors and doors into life”.
-
Windows: seeing the world in new ways and discovering new ideas
-
Mirrors: reflecting on our own thoughts, feelings, and actions
-
Doors: taking what we have learnt and using it to explore, grow, and make a positive difference using the perspective of others to enter reflection
Spirituality can be:
-
Appreciating the world around us
-
Reflecting on our thoughts and feelings
-
Being still and observant
-
Experiencing awe through music, nature, love, or art
-
Sometimes hard to put into words
We create many opportunities for pupils and staff to grow spiritually, both in collective worship and throughout the school day.
We continue to encourage spiritual growth in everyday learning through:
-
Forest Schools, offering experiences of awe, wonder, and connection with nature
-
The Reflection areas as a calm space for thought
-
A discussion-based RE curriculum
-
Big question themes across the curriculum
-
Listening to music and studying art
-
Reading stories and poetry that open minds and hearts
At Garston, we believe that spirituality is part of every child’s journey, helping them to flourish and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
