The Good Samaritan

As a school community, Garston Church of England Primary School have chosen The Good Samaritan as our school parable.

The Good Samaritan is a parable told by Jesus in Luke 10:25–37. It teaches about compassion and love for others. Here’s the story in summary:

  1. A man is attacked by robbers while travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho. He is left badly injured.

  2. A priest passes by but avoids helping him.

  3. A Levite (another religious figure) also sees him but ignores him.

  4. A Samaritan, a member of a group despised by Jews at the time, stops and cares for the man. He treats his wounds, takes him to an inn, and pays for his stay.

Jesus concludes by asking, “Which of these three was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The answer is obvious: the one who showed mercy, the Samaritan.

Key lessons:

  • True neighbourliness is about action, not status or ethnicity (Be Aspirational)

  • Everyone has the power to be a good citizen and Be a Changemaker

  • Love is expressed through deeds, not just words. (Be Kind)
